The rafting or trekking trip is definitely very exciting therefore it is important to have the right equipment. Since many of you are wondering how to prepare for these trips in Nepal, we prepared the packing list.

The list is not exclusive and it is just an indicator.

Rafting packing list:

The rafting company will provide you with all safety equipment like a helmet, a life jacket, and a paddle. In the case of the multi-day excursions, you should be also provided with a tent and sleeping bag.

Here is the list that you might not always think when packing for the white water rafting

a. Day trip:
  1. River sandals (for example Chacos, Keens or Teva’s, etc.) or comfortable river shoes as well for around the camp
  2. Reusable water bottle
  3. Suncream / lotion
  4. Swimsuit
  5. Sunglasses with a strap
  6. Baseball hat
  7. Shorts, t-shirt which can get wet
  8. Warm fleece
  9. Socks
  10. Towel
  11. Clothes for traveling in
  12. Camera
  13. Small cash for some snacks
  14. Specific medicaments if needed– we will have First Aid Kit

While rafting, your big backpack will be stored in our camp or transported to the take out point.

b. Overnight trip

In addition to the above you will be required to take the above stuff as well:

    1. Dry and warm clothes for the evenings as nights can get cold.
    2. Wash kit- we recommend biodegradable ones
    3. Torch
    4. Personal medication
    5. Book or small travel games (for instance deck of cards)
    6. Photocopy of your passport and visa
    7. Some cash for treats
    8. Finally, sleeping bag and mattress (if you don’t have them, we will provide it to you for free).

Trekking list:

The size of your bag pack will depend if you decide to use a porter or not. If yes, your usual day bag will only contain water, snacks, a camera and rain gears.

However, those without a porter will need a bigger bag that will contain personal and sleeping equipment.

For regular multi-day trekking with the overnight stay at the teahouses, the following items are recommended:

  1. Lightweight walking shoes /sandals
  2. Lightweight long sleeve trekking shirts (3). Long sleeves are good for sun protection. Lightweight makes for easy wash material.
  3. Long sleeve cotton t-shirt – (1). Good for sleeping in at night or as a base layer if it gets cold in the mornings/evenings.
  4. Long leg lightweight combat trekking pants, zip-off are good. (1-2). A lot of these pants are windproof, avoid anything too heavy or completely waterproof. Zip offs are good as they can double up as shorts during the day, for instance.
  5. Windproof jacket/windbreaker (1): you’ll mainly use this only in the morning, or when sitting around at night. But making sure it’s windproof is good in case the wind picks up.
  6. Sunglasses
  7. Baseball cap (to protect against the sun)
  8. Suncream
  9. Quick-dry towel (1) Try a medium size rather than bath sized.
  10. Toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, biodegradable soap, lip balm, etc.)
  11. Water bottle
  12. Water purification tablets or drops
  13. Specific medicaments if needed– we will have First Aid Kit
  14. Small head torch with batteries.
  15. Sleeping bag (-15 C bag will be sufficient for most of the treks)
  16. Wallet to carry your money (bring a lot of small change!)
  17. Day Pack (1) used to pack all the above into. Make sure it’s strong, with lots of pockets and one or two small preventative locks.
  18. Hiking poles (lessen the impact on your joints)
