If you have done rafting before and now you are thinking to move it to the next level so why not to try Tamur river rafting or kayaking.
About Tamur River
Tamur River is located in eastern Nepal. You won’t find many tourists here as it is considered one of the most remote rivers in Nepal. It origins from Kanchenjunga which is the 3rd worlds highest peak.
Tamur river rafting is a multi-adventure experience. Therefore it is a great way to tick all must-do things in Nepal i.e. rafting, trekking as well as remote village sightseeing.
There are two options to start Tamur river rafting (kayaking):
- Early morning flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar (approx. 45 minutes).
- The cheaper option to get to Biratnagar is to take a bus which leaves a day before and will take approx. 20 hours.
From Biratnagar we drive (by bus or Jeep) to Basantapur. Here we camp and get ready for the next day trekking.
On the next day, we will be trekking for 3 days from Basantapur to Dobhan. During the trek expect to see spectacular Himalayan mountains including Mount Everest, Makalu, and Kanchanjunga. On the way, we also pass the beautiful lake at Gofa Pokhari.
On the 5th day, we finish trekking in Dobhan and it is time for rafting or kayaking. The continuous Whitewater of the Tamur river guarantees your lifelong memories. From Dobhan we will have 120 km of white water with over 100 class 3+ and 4+ rapids. After the exciting days, we camp on the sandy beaches and enjoy delicious food. The last day on the river (5th day) we will finish in Chatra. After that, you will be transferred to Biratnagar airport. Moreover, you can join the gear bus back to Kathmandu.
To sum it up, it is 12 days of living in the wild what an experience!
